Pop Kings með plötuna The Master Pop
Ég var alltaf að teikna eitthvað og föndra þegar ég var lítill. Uppúr fermingu fór ég að hanna plötuumslög fyrir ímyndaðar hljómsveitir, aðallega litlar plötur, og var með ímyndað plötufyrirtæki. Mig minnir að það hafi heitið Holy Records og það gaf út einar 50 plötur. Öll þau umslög eru týnd.
Gæðablaðið Fréttir frá Sovétríkjunum var til í hrönnum á heimilinu. Hvað sem pabbi reyndi að segja því upp kom það alltaf, jafnvel þrátt fyrir að hann borgaði aldrei áskriftina. Þetta mánaðarlega tímarit hafði mikil áhrif á mig. Ég bæði samdi texta upp úr því ("Aðbúnaður vangefinna í Sovétríkjunum" hét eitt lag) og svo klippti ég myndirnar út og límdi þær á plötuumslögin. Ég man vel eftir þessari umslagagerð og finnst miður að þau eru öll týnd.
Ég kom hins vegar af fjöllum þegar mamma sýndi mér umslagið með Pop Kings nýlega. Ég hef teiknað það löngu fyrir fermingu og hafði steingleymt því. Ég fór að fíla Bítlanna um 10 ára aldur og umslagið er greinilega undir áhrifum af þeim.
Nú er platan með Pop Kings loksins komin út, 25 árum eftir að umslagið var hannað. Þetta er án efa lengsta bil sem hefur verið á milli gerð umslags og útkomu plötu. Meðlimir Pop Kings voru og eru þeir kumpánar Tony Bee, Wiljams' Kidd, Ringo Far og Billy Tover. Lögin eru ellefu og heita Bold Bedy, I'm Box, Master a Wild, Boston, Rabbit, The Master Pop, 1, 2, 3, 4, 14 + 0.1, Cester Me, Hold me Tyrt og Away is it Tester. Platan (eða geisladiskurinn öllu heldur) fæst í Japis, Laugarvegi, og 12 tónum, Barónsstíg. Erðanúmúsik gefur út.

The Master Pop by Pop Kings
I was always drawing and doing handicraft when I was small. Around my confirmation I started designing record covers for imaginary group, mainly 7"s, and I even had my own imaginary record company. I think it was called Holy Records and it had around 50 releases. All those covers are lost.
The quality magazine News from the Soviet Union was available in quanity in my home. My dad tried to cancel the subscription but it always came anyways, even though he never paid for it. This monthly mag had big influences on me. I wrote lyrics under those influences ("The Accommodation of Retards in The Soviet Union" was one title) and cut pictures from the mag and glued them on the covers. I remember this cover design vividly and am sad they are all lost.
On the other hand I was pleasantly surprised when mom showed me the cover by Pop Kings recently. I had drawn it long before my confirmation and totally forgotten about it. I started to dig The Beatles around the age of 10 and the cover is clearly under Beatle-influences.
Now the album by Pop Kings is finally out, 25 years after the cover was designed. Without doubt this is the longest delay in history between the design of an album cover and the release of the album. Pop Kings were and are: Tony Bee, Wiljams' Kidd, Ringo Far and Billy Tover. There are 11 songs: Bold Bedy, I'm Box, Master a Wild, Boston, Rabbit, The Master Pop, 1, 2, 3, 4, 14 + 0.1, Cester Me, Hold me Tyrt og Away is it Tester.
